My staging system has its roots in the Movie Industry. Oh, what is that? Here come the excuses…or, if you will excuse me for calling them what they really are….here is the FEAR…
Excuse #1- "I just don't have the time to start something new." Yep, none of us does. I used to think that too, but it just got to the point that I was so tired of robbing Peter to pay Paul. So tired of being depressed and mostly so tired of depriving myself of things that I knew I deserved. After all, I was not asking for it to be delivered to me on a silver platter….I was willing to work for my dreams. So, I had to decide… what about those dreams…my dreams?
Excuse #2 - "I don't have the money." This is always a big one, especially in a lousy economy. I remember when Pete (my husband) and I were over $118,000 in credit card debt and we had no idea how to get out. We did not own a home, so there was nothing to sell. We certainly had not saved any money and the truth is we did not even have a savings account-only checking. The only thing we had was our pride, which would not let us ask for help. But, somewhere deep down in my heart, (or deep down in my ego), I knew that there had to be a way out, but it certainly was not by doing things the same way as we had been doing them. I just knew, call it women's intuition, that if I did not make a GIANT LEAP (and yes, figuratively as well as spiritually) that I would never go forward. That my life would continue on in the same old direction. Always out of time, always out of money, always out of passion.
Yes, I had to be honest with myself..."If you always use money as an excuse not to go forward, will lack of money eventually send you backward?" I was not going to let that happen. After all, what is the worst case scenario? I fail. Well, heck, I don't know about you, but I am good at that…I know how to fail…it is comfortable for me…done it a million times! It is the fear of success that scares the heck out of me!
So, I took a deep breath and went after what I wanted. We pulled ourselves out of that $118,000 of credit card debt in 1 year…yep, just one year! Today, less than 4 years later, I am worth well over a million dollars and my income has increased by over a 1000%. But, I did not let the excuse of "I don't have the money" hold me back, and you can't either.
Excuse #3- "My spouse does not support my dreams." It is far easier if you and your spouse or partner are on the same page, I would agree with that. But, when I first started, Pete did not believe in what I was doing. Nope, he is a great guy, but he was certain that I was off on a "get rich quick" pipe dream. I followed him around the country, supported his career, but now, it was my turn, and I knew I could do it.
